PS3 vs Xbox 360

I'd like to know which is a better console. PS3 is too expensive compared to Xbox360 but many people said that it has a longer lifespan and better games. My son is requesting for a console and I prefer to give him a console as a gift.

PS3 slim is $299.99 from Best Buy. I personally love the PS3. I do not always use it, but when I do everything is conveniently there. With the PS3 you get the excellent blu-ray system, easy to maneuver controls and the game selection is pretty good. And yes, the PS3 is more known to have almost zero problems unlike the XBox360 problems you hear about on a daily basis. The online-play is also free unlike the XBox360 (Xbox Live), which you have to pay monthly for a certain subscription. PS3 functions pretty much just like a computer, which is what I like. And I am also a fan of Sony products.

And do not forget to get Gran Turismo 5 for your son. It comes out November 2th, only for PS3.

i own a ps3 and like shaw said gt5 is commin in november and twisted metal is commin next year and a new bioshock is commin soon also...and a ps3 has playstation move and online is free or u can pay for the plus and blu-ray is great...they r both the same price but wit the ps3 u get a better value cuz u get the best blu-ray player on the market 3-d gaming playstation move and the greatest racing game ever

I'm gonna have to agree and go with the PS3. Also Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Metal Gear Solid Rising, LittleBigPlanet 2 and Final Fantasy XIII:Versus are some other great games to look forward to. So there is a lot of worthy games coming out soon that make PS3 a much more solid console to buy. Plus it's reliable, Free online, and costs just as much as Xbox 360 now. Only thing I can see getting an Xbox 360 for is maybe Halo? lol. I'm not sure what else Xbox has that's good and exclusive since I've never owned an Xbox before so I guess you can say I'm biased.

PS3 all the way. It has a web browser, a Bluray player, built in wireless adapter + free online which means you can go online out of the box without having to buy an extra piece of hardware or paying a subscription to anything, has better processors which = better graphics.......I could seriously go on and on. The commercial "It does everything" pretty much sums it up. I have all three consoles (PS3, 360 & Wii) and by FAR the PS3 reigns supreme.

i own both a ps3 and a xbox 360. Personally, i love the ps3 because it is capable of blue ray dvd's and has netflix. I love the backgrounds and how legit and versatile it is. Although, I use my 360 a lot more than my ps3 due to the fact that i just have more games for the xbox. (cod) mostly lol.
But if you were to pick between the two, i would buy the ps3 because it comes with so much more. But if you end up with the 360, get the Kinect.

I like XBOX, It has its bugs, but its more intuitive for me, coming from the original XBOX to the 360 was a no brainer, I've tried to like playstation, but the controllers never fit with me. It's just personal preference in my case, but I've gotta go with 360.

As for games, each console has its unique games, like the Forza vs Gran Turismo debate... If there is a game he is dying to have, that only comes on one console, then get that console obviously.

i have both (launch model PS3 and jasper 360). get the PS3 if you're looking for an all around entertainment system. 360 is more specialized for gaming, plus its cheaper (if you get the arcade model). i own Modern Warfare 2 on both systems and the level of multiplayer competition on xbox live is way more advanced than the PSN.

also consider which systems your friends have. i like the PS3 better, but most of my friends have a 360 so I'll buy the 360 version of a game (if available on both systems) to play with them online.

if you're a social gamer, xbox has more online social games thats good for playing with friends and what not. theres a lot more games for xbox than ps3, and almost all of them you can link up with friends. not saying ps3 has NO online games, just a lot less. if you're not into that stuff, ps3 would definately be the way to go.

decent comparison. i just dont like how they show the #'s on each consoles cpu/gpu/etc but dont show side by size vids. i remember back when madden 07 *or was it madden 08) was new ... they did a side by side and the xbox 360 version ran is smoother over teh ps3 (even tho ps3 has all the muscle under the hood)

funny what u said about the mw2 tho, a few of my homies played it at a cousins house on ps3 and said the following: "wow, i wanna switch to ps3 .... its so much easier to get free kills/win up in this bitch!" LOL!

if you HAVE to chose, it'll come down to wether or not your son wants to play online, the X360 has the edge there, not only because it works great, but also because the controllers allow more precise moves.

if it's solo play, go for the PS3, it has online, it's free, but not nearly as good as the 360

your son has friends, who have parents just like you.. they want to get their kid what most of their friends have, which lets face it, most play on the xbox... yes u will have a live subscription you need to pay for, but sony is slowly opting in for paying.. (ps3 fanboys face it sony realizes that servers dont pay for themselfs and they are paying for it now) furthermore if you are patient, those live subscriptions go for well below 40 bucks a year, which is a drop in the bucket... you also have an included headset for your kid to talk to his friends online.. if you use netflix, you can run it directly off the xbox, the ps3 not so much ( it requires a cd still) furthermore the xbox has an OPTIONAL install of the game to the hard drive... the ps3 requires all games to have data downloaded on the drive..
gamewise: the xbox has all the titles that are platformed shared and then some: HALO.. yes its awesome.. i enjoy it.. and so do over 20 million kids... Need for speed, forza all great games.. exclusives are slowly becoming a thing of the past.. no developer wants to lose out on that extra 100 million in sales.. and the best part you dont wait years between releases... they come out fairly quickly with MS deep pockets



the ps3 is a monster of a system, but to appreciate it, you need to be a bit older. the exclusives are limited to only about 4 major ones.. metal gear solid (will not have another again) little big planet (great family game) Uncharted (more adult oriented) and finally GT5 (which you fanboys gotta remember you waited 5 years for) the blu ray is the only major thing that holds the ps3 above the xbox..

I have a ton of PS3 games and I have yet to experience a 1 hour install time. Longest one I experienced was LittleBigPlanet and that was because of all the updates that game has lol.

as for the 1 hour install time, no i havent had a game.. but i dont play fable of final fantasy.. both being the culprits there... NFS Shift was my longest at 40 minutes to install and another 10 to update... hence why i buy games for the xbox...

if youre into not paying for video games, the 360 is easy to mod (the older model anyway). a friend of mine paid some guy on craigslist $40 to reflash his 360. now he downloads games and burns them (you need a dual layer burner and discs) or buys burned games off craigslist (4 for $25 or something like that). the big negative is you cant go on xbox live. I've heard people say you can, but I've never seen proof.

^^^ i am a mod masta! u CAN go on live, but u risk getting banned. of the 100 people ive modded less then 10 got banned, up until cod mw2 came out ... then all of a sudden ... POW .... 50-60 got banned =(

i hope u got some good info from this thread OP as u can see there are both sides to the coin.. it just depends on which u think he would like more... and i still stand by my statement.. most of my cousins and their friends have xbox's they are cheap to come by..

dell had a 4gb model (new slim) for 160+tax.. making it under 200 for a new system.. not bad imho... ive yet to see major steals like that for a ps3...

i <3 my ps3 blu ray capability.. but for multiplayer... xbox all the way.. nothing beats a classic halo match...
