Hi im thinking of getting a new camera from my girl...
can people here point me in the good direction and in a good camera...
maybe not a high end camer (2k), but something like a nikon (d series), canon, sony or something in that range (1K)...

the other thing im thinking of getting are some nice headphones... which do you recommend? they have to be noise canceling, comfortable and stylish...

you could go with the Nikon D3000 or Nikon D5000
not a bad price for what you get.
at best buy they are both under a grand.

if you got a 1kish budget id get a d90 kit. its right outside of the basic consumers so it has all the capability and characteristics for a good camera. will auto focus on non (nikkor) af-s lenses as where the 5000 and below will not which would require you to purchase more expensive lenses to auto focus if you went witha 5000 series and below. it has good high iso performance, and is pretty fast (4.5fps) also can do 720p hd which is a plus for fun

if you want a canon variation id go with a t2i, i hear good and bad but im sure its a great cam all around so you cant go wrong.

Don't buy anything in store..Tax will kill you on those big purchases.

Recommendations:
Canon Rebel...
XT
XTI
XS
XSI
T1i
T2i
Not Rebel
30D
40D (more fps compared to the 30D, better ISO, bigger LCD)
50D (not too different from the 40D but has some new features and improvements)
60D (a little more expensive, but just came out and has crazy specs)
5D Mark I Used.

Nikon
D40
D40x
D50
D60
D70
D70s
D80 (Definitely recommend that)
D90 is a little more expensive but you will get better specs.

Something to look into about the Nikon cameras...Look and see if they have an internal autofocus motor. Because... Most of them, like D40/D70 etc do NOT have an internal AF motor. So... You will have to buy more expensive lenses that are AF-S.

All Canons come with AF internal motors, so you won't have to research.
The XSI is pretty good for it's price and has good specs, so I'd recommend that...Also, a lens that is pretty cheap that I definitely recommend getting is the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II. Perfect for portraits and just overall a great lens.

Since this is for your girl...I'm assuming you want to buy new.
If you don't care...You can get a used 40D or 50D OR even a 5D Mark 1 for a good price on POTN. :D

Hopefully some of your questions are answered.
