Wait till I get started on the motor :)
Planning to do a fully built 3.6 vr6/gt45r/tilton/motec/custom intake and exhaust manifolds. Flat black intercooler with re-anodized orange wiggins clamps. 2 fuel systems, 1 fuel cell so I can run 92 octane at low RPM through small injectors that iddle easy and massive injectors to pump 110 when the 45r begins to spool. Should make 1100-1200 awhp.
Basically the objective is to never think about any of my past projects I regret I sold. An exotic feel (CLk-DTM seats, gallardo wheel, ferrari knob and thinking of a tilton pedal box) with the practicality of a family wagon, the power to destroy nearly anything, with perfect fitment and a clean look, while still being somewhat rare (b5 RS4 widebody).
Couple of my past projects I regret selling:
Deffinetly not hella flush but was quite a while ago...

So my camber in this shot is probably around -3.5 as the uprights aren't currently adjustable but my clearance is pretty good. I need to buy the 034's or sterns since the stockers aren't adjustable. Not looking for to much as the tires were bloody expensive and I'd hate to prematurely wear them out. Also I want the car to perform well around a track :) ...

Well this car hasn't moved from the garage for over a year and the parts collection has been going on for a long time. The parts were so expensive I had to wait in for a few months in between. Those seats (sparco dtm-rs) if you look up the retail are 3,200$ per w/o hardware and the wheels are over 1800$ PER WHEEL (adv 10.1 stepped lip concave) through a distributor, and the rs4 widebody had I gone retail would have been 12,000$. I've been pretty lucky in picking up a few deals here and there but they haven't exactly been smashing. My objective with this particular build though is; best of everything no expense spared.

Hey sorry guys,
here's a few shots of some new stuff
I wanted to do orange, but you already "claimed" that. LOL
I was joking with a friend that I should get a huge Seattle Supersonics logo for the back window and get a custom plate that says FU SCHULTZ.
I got new hardware kits for the rotors so here they are being reassembled and a few of the other parts I had anodized orange:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/c61lude/IMG_4463.jpg
Garage is much cleaner now [:)]
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/c61lude/IMG_4458.jpg
All 4 uprights are out, getting cleaned up and ready for new wheel bearings.. I've probably logged 25 hours in the past 2 weeks just cleaning suspension parts and the 4 fender wells. Ruined about 40 towels and went through an industrial size bottle of simple green but it's spic and span inside the fenders [:)]
3 clean and 1 dirty...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/c61lude/IMG_4464.jpg
Have spent a bunch of time just cleaning and beginning to reassemble. Car is scheduled to go to the body shop next week and then we're looking at roughly 2-3 months before it's on the road and ready for a magazine :)
I really wanted to take pictures of the fender wells but my garage is so small and I only have this crappy 50mm lens for my 40d... If you guys want to donate to the lens fund please send payment to benjaminraythomas@paypal.com lol!

Spent 26 hours this weekend and got all suspension back in with new wheel bearings. Stud conversion is locktighted in but unfortunately I'm going to be busy for the rest of the week. I guess that gives time for the locktight to cure. Tommorow I need to tap out the lug nuts, have the rear rotors turned and shaved down just a bit and balanced after re-assembly. Then the car comes off the jackstands for the first time in over a year. Suspension is re-torqued to spec and measured, then she get's trailed off to the body shop. GETTING CLOSE!!!!!!!!
I'll post pictures by the end of the week!

10-01-2010, 09:57 PM
Just an fyi these quarters are being cut off and replaced with the rs4 ones (which are significantly larger). I just pulled the stockers out with a set of plyers since they will be cut off and scrapped. I just needed to get as close as possible with my ride height so the shop could adjust the camber. Now that that is good, when Andy grafts on the quarters he'll know exactly how much to pull them out so I can get perfectly perfect fitment.

how much clearance do you have on the inside in the rear?
nthusiastt
10-02-2010, 07:22 AM
A few micrometers. I can't fit a coin between the tire and upright. You can get an 11 wide under there but the outer arches need quite a bit of modification to get them to tuck a beefy tire. I think a 10.5" front & rear is perfect. Suprisingly you can fit wider tires in the front than you can in the rear. If you ran aluminum uprights and pulled the fender you could get 295's under there. The RE-11's that I'm running are on the wide side and closer to 285's so I could have probably ran like a 285 t1-r with the same clearance. Originally I was looking at the 295/30 r-888 but it wouldn't have cleeared the uprights unfortunately because it has one of the largest contact patches.
Here's a shot of the r-888's

I'm really kind of bummed about my wheel fender fitment in the front. Thinking about swapping my front to rear. Right now I have +19 front and +16 rear so probably going to swap and throw some spacers on it as a temp fix. Long term fix will be purchasing 1/2" larger lips (will extend the wheel to 11" front and rear) when I need a new set of tires. Anyone have any other ideas?
DarksideGTI
10-07-2010, 08:58 AM
I would keep the +16's in the rear as the +19's probably won't be wide enough when the RS4 Rear Fender is on. Plus the et difference isn't going to be enough, if you want it to stick out an additional .5" then you will want some 12mm spacers.

Yeah, the stock intercooler location for the s4 is side mounted. It makes sense for a v6 twin turbo. The old tt 300zx's used to have the same design. I know the general consensus is side mounts look small and inefficient but the wagners RS4's are massive and the shrouds are score. I'll have to take some snaps of the core comparison so people can see how much larger the we rs4's are over stock.

Not sure, maybe 650's.. Maybe gt's, maybe just rs6's. Ideally I want a motor I can rev to 9,5 without worrying and makes mega power up top but I don't know if the 2.7 will take me there or the vr6 would've gotten me there. I can say though I'm growing tired of spending ten's of thousand's on this build though. Probably won't do anything too nutty unless I get a sponsorship. 500whp will be the least I would expect the car to make, but I probably wouldn't be personally happy with anything under 700 :(
DarksideGTI
10-26-2010, 09:48 AM
I would go with a TiAl 770 kit from Agtronic. Make sure it has open dumps too. Revving to 9,500 is going to require a lot of headwork though.

Yeah, been thinking about it and AMD is about 5 minutes from my house. Dunno, we'll see... I just don't like internally gated turbo's, for my application I want to run open wastegates.

So how much work is it to tear down and rebuild the calipers? Is it very difficult? I think my gti could use some color matched calipers!

It's not too bad on the monoblock calipers, just hook up some compressed air and push the pistons out. When I bring them out I'll leave a couple of the pistons in just to show the seal/piston re-install.
