problem is when doing pulls on STI's with over fenders. many times the over fender trim comes off cracks the rivets or gets loose
heres a step by step on how to re install those over fenders.
very similar to http://t3hclap.com/archives/49 which is a great link aswell.
did a few things a bit different but pretty much the same concept.
ok lets start
you will need:
-14 clamps, the more the better.
-lord fusor 803ez. (adhesive)
-pieces of rags. (clean and soft)
-heat gun.
-1/4 angle grinder with sand disk.
-long piece of cardboard.
-jack
-jack stands
-cleaning rags
-micro fiber
-car soap and water
-2000 grit sand paper
-paint safe goo gone
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0201.jpg
the fender
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0200.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0202.jpg
first off you want to clean the fender off all that left over adhesive. using goo gone (paint safe), and a heat gun with a rag.
spray the goo gone and let it soak for a while. about ten min
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0203.jpg
now with the heat gun, heat up the adhesive strip until it starts to bubble up. using your rag rub the adhesive off. it should roll up in a little balls and fall off.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0204.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0205.jpg
now that its all off get your favorite car wash and clean the fender
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0206.jpg
while its still wet get your 2000 grit sand paper and wet sand the area that the adhesive will sit on.

part 2 continue
dry the fender. and tape off the area above the marking so you dont get any adhesive on the exposed body.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0210.jpg
not that the fender is prepped its time to prep the over fenders
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0211.jpg
get the sand wheel and shave the inner fender. be very careful not to hit the painted portion of the over fender.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0212.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0213-1.jpg
wash off the over fender and dry
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0214-1.jpg
Applicating the adhesive
(be very careful with it. the lord fusor is messy and stains:lol: having another person to help you would make this process alot easier.)
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0216.jpg
prep your clamps and rags.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0215.jpg
apply adhesive on the fender and over fender.
start clamping
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0218.jpg
make sure not to apply too much pressure. you want the gap sealed but not stressed. these over fenders are thin and will crack if too much pressure is applied. use common sense take your time
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0219.jpg
you will notice that the clamps move down when more pressure is applied.
quick fix.
get a piece of cardboard. fold it up and jam it behind the fender edge area.

Awdalbert
11-10-2010, 10:30 PM
part 3 continue
you will not have any more un wanted movement if done correctly.
finish clamping
let the fender sit over night !!!repeat all steps on other side.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0226.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0229.jpg
morning
remove clamps, clean the fenders of any remaining finger print and loose adhesive with a clean microfiber rag and goo gone
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0243.jpg
enjoy your over fenders again.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f154/Beto1987/fender%20roller/IMG_0245.jpg

nice write up, i had to do this to my right fender flare with 803ez. about to roll my left side again to match it a little better to the other side, but ill be using some fusor 142 this time around. heard it holds just as good as the 803ez but cures alot faster, only downside is you have to buy tips and an applicator gun if you dont have one

I did this yesterday around 4pm with the help of 2 friends. We got done at about 6pm. 2 of my friend did the prep work on the fenders, as i grinded /sanded the over fender and got them ready to get put on. Alberts write up was so easy to follow. Here my process
Over fender off.(i taped the underside just in case)
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture003-5.jpg
Here it is sanded with all the tabs grinded down.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture009-7.jpg
Heres a side that i was working on. I was washing it up with some warm water and car soap(i didnt take a pic of the side i was trying to document.)
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture008-3.jpg
While wet i sanded or rather scuffed up the paint with 220grit.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture007-4.jpg
After letting it dry i cleaned it once again with alcohol. Then applied the Lord Fusion that Albert supplied me with.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture010-4.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture011-5.jpg
I took a different approach with the clamps. I decided to flip them because it was easier for me to use pivoting side on the inside of the fender liner.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture-7.jpg
After letting it dry for 17 hours this is the result
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture012-5.jpg
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/ayeyojay/Picture013-3.jpg

http://tapatalk.com/mu/4b52a64e-286e-90b2.jpg
for very extreme pulls such as this one use a heat gun to soften the plastic fender garnish then apply clamps
once again 2 sets of hands are better than one
take your time yet work quick and orderly, have a plan set out your clamps and good luck
because rushing can be costly

That flare is like no other, good shit Austin your such a downer lol!!
Reminds me of a S2000 with the ASM Overfenders but without the rivets.
Your one of the first GD's that pulled this off thats for sure cause that is like another 3in Hot DaMN!
This is one hell of a aggressive GD hands down!
Stance_Armstrong
07-03-2011, 11:02 PM
please disregard alberts post. although the second round of lord fuzor did seal most of it, there are still parts that came off overnight where the pull is at its most aggressive nature. lord fuzor will not work for this type of pull. also, the fact that we were doing this in 100+ heat dried the adhesive too quickly, as well as softened it. our only current solution is to rivet. stay tuned.
Awdalbert
07-04-2011, 03:48 PM
yeah lord fuzor didn't hold with mad aggressive pull, heat softened it up pretty well around 11am today it came loose :/

Damn Austin, I never noticed how aggressive your pull was. The only other thing I can think of is mixing something in with the Fusor (i.e. JB Weld, Barge Cement, Gorilla Glue, adhesion promotor?).

yeah i know right? and the thing is that was pretty much the minimum needed to run my wheels at my height. the reason why you/others could not tell before was because when a friend and i did this together we did everything hella shitty and ended up putting the flares too high up on the body which ended up hiding the pull. now that were redoing this the right way we are obligated to conform the flare to the pull. honestly, it looks much better this way and the end result will look like the pictures albert posted. in its current state it only needs 3 rivets as its something like 70-80% attached via the lord fuz0r.
thanks for the tip but at this point im done covering my fenders in product that im going to have to spend a whole day removing lol
also, there are tons of options to allievate this problem, which have been suggested to me, which i simply can't afford, i.e.:
"bodyshop it"
run with out them and get an 04 sti bumper
custom flare
cut your fender
shave fender
etc.

Yeah, I'm giving it another shot tonight. I didn't think this was gonna happen since my pull isn't as aggressive as yours. But if all else fails, I guess I'm gonna have to rivet it like you did.

with the pull that you have remove it prep and reseal it with the regular method using lord Fuzor adhesive.
rivets are easier but they stand out alot. don't look very OEM and is more work if it has to be taken off.
