My engine bay is looking pretty beat up. I've relocated a few things and now you can see more and more how badly it needs to be repainted. Only problem is that it's my daily and I kinda don't wanna spend the money and and be out of a car for a week. Do you guys think gold or silver tape would be too tacky? Or if it would look cool. I've seen guys who gold tape off parts of the engine bay but not the whole thing.
What's your input?

Uh tape? Ew.
Best advice is just do it right the first time, painting would be the best option.
If not, a good pressure wash.
Are you asking for other things you can do to dress up your engine bay besides painting?
Not much really, besides maybe a strut bar, cooling panel, caps, different spark plug cover.. just keep it clean, dont half half-ass it.

gold heat reflective tape will not look tacky to most people it will look like the lunar lander. to the hardcore car people it will look like an f1 car.

I think tape where some nice glossy paint or any paint for that matter would look kind of gross. Thats my personal opinion and I guess if I saw it actually done maybe I would think differently, but untill then...

Pretty much perfection. He used gold wrap as some sort of heat shroud near the firewall.

That looks good maybe I'll try doing the area behind my turbo since that will atleast have a purpose and see what everyone thinks

Ive got silver dei tape on one side for right now. To me it depends on how you put it on. If you just plaster it on there it will not look right. If you take the time to even it out and ish, it will come out pretty good. get the dei stuff tho cuz ive tried to cheaper versions and they all suck!

My first suggestion would be to budget for your car to be down while its getting painted. Might as well do it right the first time.
If you are set on not having your car down for paint then I would only use the tape in moderation. Here is a G35 engine bay that just used it in the firewall area, works well in his bay.

Can you post a pic of your engine bay so we can see what it looks like now?

do it right or not at all.. only put that tape on the fire wall and paint the thing you can pull alot of the stuff and hit it with a rattle can if all else fails its really easy there isnt much at all on the tubs and shit. Any paint place could do it in like a day or two.
