is this the right thread to ask a camera question?
THE NEW PROJECT
Ask away! =]
just got a nikon d5100... just wanted to see who has one so i can get familiar with this thing... seems like alot of camera upgrading from a canon rebel
THE NEW PROJECT
So I'm relatively new to dslr photography. Just curious if I could get some advice on techniques that I could use in post that would help me get more gloss out of the paint jobs on cars. Also, what process (selective color, vibrance, etc.) do you use to get more blue out of blown out skies?
first pik with d5100 lol
ruined quality on upload!
THE NEW PROJECT
this may help http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d5100/u...uide/index.htm. some people don't like what he says, but i think it's good info
first off, this is my personal opinion...but i think both of those (color and sky) have to first be achieved in the original picture, otherwise post processing can't really enhance what you didn't get a picture of (i.e. blown out sky). so not sure how relatively new you are to dslr photography, but going back to the basics is key to creating a great final photo. basics meaning framing, composition, settings (iso, aperture, shutter, white balance, etc.), maybe taking multiple exposures to capture different aspects of your final photo (different circular polarizations on paint, color in sky, etc.)...like i said earlier, my opinion. this link may help with colors too http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...postcount=3001
hope someone else can provide some helpful insight for post processing, because i cheat using photoshop actions![]()
^I guess using the term blown out was a bit drastic, The photos just have a lighter blue of a sky than I would like.
i get decent results from my t2i just being on auto =P but im also hosting half my pics on fb

If it's already blue you could just increase the vibrance and mask out the rest of the photo... its it comes out white you would have to replace the blown out sky with the sky of another photo which didn't come out blown out. I've done that before![]()
Did it to this one if I'm not mistaken:

and this one:

You can also dodge the sky to get some of the detail back. I used the dodge technique on both of these photos:

Lots of good info here. I'll have to read more when I get more time!![]()
